The Magic Drum Orchestra is a 15-piece percussion group led by Glyn "Bigga" Bush and Ralph Cree. Based in the South West of the UK they have been rocking street events and festivals for over four years and have played to over 20,000 people at the climax of the 2009 Big Chill festival as guests of HEXSTATIC.

This is their first album on which they take the raw template of Brazilian street samba then twist and warp it into their own distinctive style, fusing elements of Afrobeat, deep funk, hip hop, jungle and traditional African rhythms. A highlight is their version of Snoop Dogg's Drop It Like It's Hot which segues into a medley of the Muppet Show theme and James Brown's Funky Drummer before climaxing in full-on batucada style. The album was recorded in the majestic space of the 12 Century-built Moynes Court in Dorset, capturing the live essence of the MDO sound and bringing it across with crystal clarity as well as raw power. Essential party music.
